| Notes | The noun modifier forms like -는 or -(으)ㄹ are endings that change the morphological function of verbs and adjectives so they could describe nouns. The principle can be generally translated as 'that' or 'who'. The -는 modifier attaches to verb stems and connotes dynamic actions currently ongoing or happening repeatedly. The ending cannot be used with adjective stems and -이다. However, 있다 and 없다 can occur in the noun modifier form. 읽다 (to read) + -는 → 읽는 (who is reading) →→ 읽는 사람 (the man who is reading) 다니다 (to attend) + -는 → 다느는 (that someone attends) →→ 제가 다니는 대학교 (the university I attend) |
