Notes | The -아/어 주시겠어요? pattern corresponds to 'would you ... [do for me/someone]?'. The structure occurs in polite requests asking the listener to perform an action. The pattern has the same meaning as -아/어 주세요. However, the question form of the request shows more consideration for the listener and thus is considered to sound more polite than -아/어 주세요. In expressions with -아/어 주시겠어요?, the verb is often preceded by 좀 ('please'). The inclusion of 좀 softens up the request. The honorific -(으)시- principle can be omitted. The -아/어 주시겠어요? is composed of: the benefactive aspect -아/어 주- (doing something for the sake of someone); the honorific suffix -(으)시-; and, the -겠- principle used in formal polite requests. |
