Front | 아침을 먹었(느)냐고 물었어요 |
---|---|
Back | I asked him of he had breakfast |
Notes | The -으/느냐 plain style question ending is used when quoting questions indirectly. The -으냐고 quoting principle attaches to adjective stems; -느냐고 follows verb stems. -느냐고 follows stems with the past, future -겠- tense markers, and the honorific principle -(으)시-. In colloquial speech and often in modern writing, the short version -냐고 (with dropped -느/으) is commonly used. However, the less used full -으/느냐 quoted question principle is regarded as standard in written Korean. |
