Quotation Contracted Forms Indirect Full Obtained Statements Questions

Front Contracted Indirect Quotation Forms
Notes The full indirect quotation forms usually occur abbreviated in colloquial speech. There are two kinds of contracted quotation forms.

The first is obtained by dropping the quoting verb:

-(ㄴ/는)다고(요), -이라고(요) for statements;
-냐고(요) for questions;
-자고(요) for proposals/suggestions; and,
-(으)라고(요), -달라고(요) for commands or requests.

These endings are commonly used in daily conversations when repeating something to get heard, when boasting or when repeating someone's words to express a different opinion.

The second kind of contracted quotation forms is obtained through further reduction of the original full forms:

-(ㄴ/는)대(요), -이래(요) for statements;
-냬(요) for questions;
-재(요) for proposals/suggestions; and,
-(으)래(요), -달래(요) for commands or requests.
