Front | 설마 학생이 한 달에 1억을 벌려고? |
---|---|
Back | Could a student really make 100 million won a month? |
Notes | In informal speech, -(으)려고 and its polite version -(으)려고요 can be used as sentence endings. -(으)려(고) moves to the end of the sentence when the second clause is omitted (being expressed elsewhere, or when its content can be assumed). Questions ending in -(으)려(고) can also express strong disbelief that the situation described in the sentence is possible in reality. The adverb 설마 is often used to emphasize the sense of skepticism. Such questions correspond to English 'Could ... really ... ?'. |
