Front | 여자친구는 "싫엉~"하는 소리를 낼 때마다 때리고 싶어요 |
---|---|
Back | Whenever my girlfriend says '싫엉~' I want to hit her |
Notes | Both -라고 and -하고 play the same role marking the quoted part. However, there is a slight difference in their meaning. -하고 not only cites the words, but also conveys the original intonation, emotion or feeling of these words. Only -하고 can be used with onomatopoetic words, for example, when talking about sounds animals or mechanisms produce. -라고 is used when simply relaying someone's words with the goal of reporting information, not the emotion. It is a common practice to avoid using -하고 했-, especially after quotes ending in -하-. Alternatively, quotations can be made with the use of -라고 and quoting verbs different from 하다, like 말했-. |
