Thomas Bowdler Editor Family Shakespeare Bowdlerize Continued Gibbon's

Thomas Bowdler (1754-1825) was an editor who censored literary works, most notably "The Family Shakespeare" (1818), giving rise to the term 'bowdlerize'. He also applied this principle to Gibbon's 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire'.
