Atp Exercise Regenerated Respiration Periods Short Phosphate Describe

This flashcard describes three main ways muscle fibers regenerate ATP: aerobic respiration for long-term low-intensity exercise, anaerobic respiration for short-term high-intensity exercise, and creatine phosphate for very short bursts of power.

Front Describe 3 ways that ATP is regenerated within muscle fibres.
Back Regenerating ATP:
  • Aerobic respiration - most ATP is regenerated through oxidative phosphorylation, used for long periods of low-intensity exercise
  • Anaerobic respiration - in active muscle, oxygen is used more quickly than blood can replace it, leads to buildup of lactic acid causing fatigue, used for short periods of high-intensity exercise
  • Creatine phosphate - phosphate from it combines with ADP to form ATP, generating ATP rapidly but stores used up quickly, used for short bursts of vigorous exercise (tennis serve)
