Blinking Impulse Cranial Nerve Neurone Motor Describe Corneal

Corneal irritation triggers an impulse along a sensory neuron (5th cranial nerve) which, via a relay neuron in the brainstem, activates a motor neuron (7th cranial nerve) to close the eyelids.

La irritación de la córnea desencadena un impulso a lo largo de un nervio sensorial (V par craneal) que, a través de una interneurona en el tronco encefálico, activa un nervio motor (VII par craneal) para cerrar los párpados.

Front Describe the corneal blinking reflex arc.
Back Blinking reflex:
  • When cornea of eye is irritated by a foreign body, this stimulus triggers an impulse along a sensory neurone (5th cranial nerve)
  • This impulse passes through a relay neurone in lower brain stem
  • Impulses are sent along branches of the motor neurone (7th cranial nerve) to initiate a motor response to close the eyelids
