Human Pharming Creating Models Genes Develop Describe Aspects

Pharming involves creating animal models by adding/removing genes to study diseases and develop therapies, and producing human proteins by genetically modifying animals to yield medically necessary proteins.

Il pharming implica la creazione di modelli animali, grazie alla rimozione o all'aggiunta di geni per studiare malattie e sviluppare terapie, e la produzione di proteine umane, modificando geneticamente gli animali per produrre proteine medicamente necessarie.

Front Describe two aspects to the field of pharming + examples for each.
Back Pharming involves:
  • Creating animal models -  addition/removal of genes so that animals develop certain diseases acting as models for development of new therapies (eg knockoud mice have some genes deleted so they are more likely to develop cancer)
  • Creating human proteins - introduction of a human gene coding for a medically required protein (genetically modifying fertilised cows to produce desired human protein)
