Location Function Describe Structure Properties Elastin Quaternary Protein

Elastin is an elastic, insoluble quaternary protein made of cross-linked tropoelastin molecules, found in blood vessel walls and lung alveoli to provide tissue flexibility.

La elastina es una proteína cuaternaria elástica e insoluble, compuesta por moléculas de tropoelastina entrecruzadas, que se encuentra en las paredes de los vasos sanguíneos y los alvéolos para dar flexibilidad a los tejidos.

Describe structure, properties, location and function of elastin.
Back Elastin:

Structure
  • Quaternary protein
  • Made from many stretchable molecules (tropoelastin) that are cross linked by covalent bonds involving lysine

Properties
  • Elastic
  • Insoluble

Location
  • Walls of blood vessels
  • Alveoli of lungs

Function
  • Give tissues flexibility to expand when needed and to return to normal size
