Oncotic Capillaries Pressure Blood Potential Water Surrounding Fluid

Oncotic pressure in capillaries arises because plasma proteins give blood a lower solute potential (higher water potential) than surrounding fluid, causing water to tend to move into blood vessels by osmosis.

Front Describe how oncotic pressure in capillaries is produced.
Back Oncotic pressure:
  • Plasma proteins give blood in capillaries a high solute potential and a low water potential compared to surrounding fluid
  • As result - water has tendency to move into blood vessels in capillaries from surrounding fluid by osmosis - oncotic pressure
