Recessive Allele Hardy Weinberg Find Frequency Q P Explian

The Hardy-Weinberg principle allows for calculation of allele frequencies by starting with the recessive genotype frequency (q²), then the recessive allele frequency (q), and finally calculating the dominant allele frequency (p) using p + q = 1.

Front Explian how the Hardy-Weinberg principle allows calculation of allele frequencies of both the dominant and recessive allele for a gene in a population by observing the phenotypes of individuals in the population.
Back Hardy-Weinberg calculations:
  • Recessive - easy to observe (lowest frequency)
  • Find frequency of recessive genotype = q2
  • Frequency of recessive allele = √q2 = q
  • Find p using p + q = 1
