Reflex actions are involuntary, innate, and extremely fast, providing immediate and efficient protection to the nervous system. They are crucial everyday actions for survival.

  • Involuntary - decision-making regions of brain are not involved - brain not overloaded with situations in which the response is always the same
  • Innate - provide immediate protection
  • Extremely fast - reflex arcs are short, involving only 1 or 2 synapses which are slowest parts of transmission - quick protection
  • They are everyday actions such as (keeping us upright and controlling digestion)
