Sieve Adaptations Tube Elements Cytoplasm Assimilates Lots Companion

Phloem is adapted with enucleated sieve tube elements to facilitate assimilate transport, sieve plates for assimilate passage, and companion cells with abundant plasmodesmata and mitochondria to meet metabolic needs.

El floema está adaptado con elementos de tubo criboso sin núcleo para facilitar el transporte de asimilados, placas cribosas para el paso de asimilados y células acompañantes con abundantes plasmodesmos y mitocondrias para satisfacer las necesidades metabólicas.

Front Describe the adaptations of phloem.
Back Adaptations of phloem:
  • Sieve tube elements - no nucleus & no/small amount cytoplasm to allow transport of assimilates more easily
  • Sieve plates allow assimilates to pass thru phloem tubes
  • Lots of plasmodesmata between companion cells, lots of mitochondria & dense cytoplasm in companion cells, to allow them to fulfill sieve tube elements with metabolic needs
