Start Codon Stop Marks Site Translation Describe Meant

This note defines start codons (like AUG) as signals for translation to begin and stop codons (UGA, UAA, UAG) as signals for translation to terminate.

Start codon (AUG) begins translation; stop codons (UGA, UAA, UAG) end it.

Front Describe what is meant by a start codon and a stop codon.
Back Start and stop codons:
  • Start codon marks the site at which translation into protein sequence begins (AUG, codes for methionine)
  • Stop codon marks the site at which translation ends (UGA, UAA, UAG, do not code for an amino acid)
