Structure Bronchioles Describe Explain Makes Adapted Function Bronchi

Bronchioles, smaller airways without cartilage, feature smooth muscle to regulate diameter and possess a thin epithelial lining allowing for some gas exchange.

Bronchioles are small airways lacking cartilage rings but containing smooth muscle that controls their diameter, and they are lined with thin epithelium allowing some gas exchange.

Front Describe the structure of bronchioles & explain how its structure makes it adapted for its function
Back Bronchioles:
  • Bronchi divide to form small bronchioles
  • No cartilage rings
  • Smooth muscle - when contracts, they constrict and when it relaxes they dilate, changing amount of air reaching the lungs
  • Thin flattened epithelium lining - some gas exhange possible
