During atrial systole, atria contract, pushing blood into relaxed ventricles, opening AV valves and closing semilunar valves. During ventricular systole, ventricles contract, pushing blood into the aorta/pulmonary artery, closing AV valves and opening semilunar valves. During diastole, all chambers relax, and blood flows from atria to ventricles as AV valves open and semilunar valves remain closed.
