Water Casparian Describe Function Strip Blocks Apoplast Pathway

The Casparian strip blocks the apoplast pathway, forcing water into cell cytoplasm and joining the symplast, and it prevents toxic solutes from entering living tissues by requiring water to pass through the selectively permeable CSM.

Front Describe the function of the Casparian strip.
Back Casparian strip:
  • Blocks apoplast pathway and forces it into cytoplasm of the cell, joining water in symplast
  • Water must pass thru selectively permeable CSM - prevents potentially toxic solutes in soil water from entering living tissues
