Disney Oswald Rights Lose  Character Disney's Great Lesson

Front How did Disney lose the rights to the Oswald character? Who took it, and what was Disney's great lesson from the experience?
Back While in the midst of creating the Oswald series, Disney went to New York to ask for higher production budgets from his distributor, now Charles Mintz. Mintz not only turned him down but threatened taking his animators and his IP rights away if he didn't accept a lower number. Disney refused, and in turn lost Oswald and everyone but Iwerks. Disney fought to keep ownership of his characters fiercely from that day on.
