In the DAG-IP3 system, the hormone activates the receptor and G-protein, which activates phospholipase C, which cleaves PIP2 into diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol triphosphate (IP3).

| Back | 1. Hormone binds and activates its receptor 2. Receptor activates G-protein 3. Activated G-protein binds to and activates and enzyme called phospholipase C 4. Phospholipase C splits phosphotidyinositol biphosphate (PIP2), a phospholipid w/in the cell membrane 5. Splitting results in formation of a. Diacylglycerol (DAG) b. Inositol triphosphate (IP3) |
