Mother Time Antibodies Antigens Explain Hemolytic Disease Newborn

Hemolytic disease of the newborn occurs when an Rh- mother carries an Rh+ fetus; the mother's immune system produces antibodies against the Rh antigen, which can affect subsequent pregnancies. Treatment with RhoGAM (anti-Rh antibodies) prevents this.

1. Occurs if the mother is Rh- and fetus is Rh+ 2. 1st time mother's blood produces antibodies against antigens 3. Results in 2nd time baby to hemolysis of fetal erythrocytes 4. Mother is treated with RhoGAM which contains antibodies against Rh antigens <img src="paste-a0c7c9e8f56eb3bbc881a7ae0d7aea5026a382ec.jpg">
