Species Niche Partitioning Resources Competitive Exclusion Principle States

Text The competitive exclusion principle states that if two species with identical ecological niches compete, then one will inevitably drive the other to extinction.

Niche partitioning occurs when two species differentiate their niches, thus tending to compete less strongly and allowing them to coexist.

Niche partitioning decreases competition for limited resources because each species is accessing the resources in different ways.
