Sympatric speciation is the evolution of a new species without geographic isolation, resulting from reproductive isolation due to genetic mutation (especially polyploidy), habitat differentiation, or sexual selection.
Text | Sympatric speciation is the evolution of a new species due to individuals being reproductively isolated from a surviving ancestral population. There is no geographic barrier. This can result from genetic mutation (especially polyploidy in plants), habitat differentiation, or sexual selection. |
