Multiple Sclerosis Disease Parts Myelin Sheaths Surrounding Neurones

Destruction of myelin sheaths in multiple sclerosis slows responses by preventing saltatory conduction, forcing the action potential to depolarize over larger membrane areas, thus slowing impulse transmission.

Multiple sclerose is een ziekte waarbij delen van de myelineschede rondom neuronen worden vernietigd. Leg uit hoe dit resulteert in langzamere reacties op stimuli (2 punten)

Front Multiple sclerosis is a disease in which parts of the myelin sheaths surrounding neurones are destroyed.  Explain how this results in slower responses to stimuli ( 2 marks)
Back 1. Less/no saltatory conduction / action potential/impulse unable to ‘jump’ from node to node;

2. More depolarisation over length/area of membranes;
