Receptors Drugs Neurotransmitters Activated Action Fewer Inhibit Release

Front Effects of drugs on action of neurotransmitters at synapses
Back
Some drugs have same shape as neurotransmitters so they mimic their action at receptors (agonists) meaning more receptors are activated

Some drugs block receptors so they cant be activated by neurotransmitters (antagonists) fewer receptors can be activated.

Some drugs inhibit the enzyme that break down neurotransmitters. More neurotransmitters in synaptic cleft to bind to receptors and they're there for longer

Some drugs stimulate the release of neurotransmitters from the presynaptic neurone so more receptors are activated.

Some drugs inhibit the release of neurotransmitters from the presynaptic neurone so fewer receptors are activated.
