Front John Keats - La Belle Dame sans Merci. A Ballad

                 VIII
She took me to her elfin grot,
And there she wept and sighed full sore,
And there I shut her wild wild eyes
With kisses four.
Back •Why 'wept'? Does she need healing and think sex is the solution? Not adequately fulfiling if she presumably has taken lots of men. Or is it just manipulation so she can take advantage of him, playing on masculine sympathies for damsels in distress?
•'kisses four' euphemism for sex?
