IAA causes cell elongation by activating proton pumps in cell walls, lowering pH to activate enzymes that break bonds, increasing cell wall plasticity, and allowing water entry via osmosis.
Front | How does IAA cause cell elongation? |
---|---|
Back | - activates proton pump - H+ actively transported into cell walls - lowered pH activates enzyme which breaks bonds within cell wall - increases plasticity of cell walls - stretch more easily - water moves in by osmosis elongating cell |
