Population Size Predators Prey Decreases Increases Survive Reproduce

Predator-prey graphs show a time lag between population size changes; an increase in prey population leads to an increase in predator population, followed by a decrease in prey, and then a decrease in predator population.

Back

- TIME LAG BETWEEN CHANGES IN POPULATION SIZE

- predators consume prey
- prey population size decreases

- intraspecific competition amongst predatotrs increases
- more predators do not obtain sufficient food to not survive or reproduce
- predators die
- predator population size decreases

- fewer prey eaten
- more prey survive and reproduce
- prey population size increases

- intraspecific competition amongst predators decreases
- more predators obtain sufficient food to survive and reproduce
- predator population size increases
