Solution Heat Benedict's Colour Test Non Reducing Sugar Change

To test for a non-reducing sugar, first heat with Benedict's solution; if negative, hydrolyze with acid, neutralize with alkali, and re-test with Benedict's, looking for a brick-red precipitate.

- heat with benedict's solution - if no colour change, reducing sugar is not present - heat with hydrochloric acid to hydrolyse into monosaccharides - add sodium hydrogencarbonate until solution is alkaline - heat with benedict's solution - colour change from blue solution to brick red precipitate
