The esophagus is a muscular tube that transports food from the pharynx to the stomach through peristalsis. It is composed of stratified squamous epithelium and a smooth muscle layer, with two sphincters (upper and lower) regulating food passage.
El esófago es un tubo muscular que transporta los alimentos desde la faringe hasta el estómago mediante la peristalsis. Está compuesto por epitelio escamoso estratificado y una capa muscular lisa. Presenta dos esfínteres: el superior y el inferior, que regulan el paso del bolo alimenticio.
