Peat Bogs Destroying Bad Environment Biodiversity Important Store

Peat bogs are important carbon sinks; their destruction releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, exacerbating the greenhouse effect and destroying habitats for organisms.

Las turberas son importantes sumideros de carbono; su destrucción libera grandes cantidades de dióxido de carbono a la atmósfera, exacerbando el efecto invernadero y destruyendo hábitats para los organismos.

Front What are peat bogs and why destroying them is bad for environment and biodiversity.
Back They are a very important store of carbon. We call them
carbon sinks
. If all the peat was removed and burned this would quickly release a huge volume of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and contribute to the
greenhouse effect
. Destroys habitats of organisms too.
