Back This most commonly occurs with a fractured tibia or forearm of children and is often overlooked, especially in patients with an altered level of consciousness. It typically develops within 6 to 12 hours after injury, usually as a result of excessive bleeding, a severely crushed extremity, or the rapid return of blood to an ischemic limb.
