Joint Sprains Ligament Injury Articular Capsule Synovial Membrane

Front What is a sprain?
Back This is an injury to ligaments, articular capsule, synovial membrane, and tendons crossing the joint. After the injury, the joint surfaces generally fall back into alignment, so the joint is not significantly displaced. The most severe sprains involve actual of the ligament and may allow joint dislocation. Mild sprains are caused by ligament streching rather than tearing. The most vulnerable joints are the knees, shoulders, and ankles.
