Back This effects the diaphragm by pushing up on it and displacing it from its normal position. As the pregnanct continues, respiratory capacity changes, with increased respiratory rates and decreasing minute volumes. You may observe a pregnant patient's increased breathing rate and a decreased ability for deep respirations.
