Front | What causes diverticulitis? |
---|---|
Back | It is caused when a lack of fiber leads to hard stool which requires more intestinal contractions, subsequently increasing pressure within the colon. In this environment, small defects within the colonic wall that would otherwise never pose a problem now fail, resulting in bulges in the wall. These small outcroppings eventually turn into pouches, called diverticula. |
