Question | Choose the sentence with the right word order |
---|---|
A | You would like some coffee? |
B | Some coffee would you like? |
C | Would like you some coffee? |
D | Would you like some coffee? |
Answer | d |
Remark | In order to be polite and helpful while making offers or invitations in conversations, English speakers use ‘Would you like…’: Would you like a biscuit with your coffee?. ‘Would you like…’ is followed either by a noun, or by the verb with to: "Would you like some coffee?"; "Would you like to drink some coffee?” That is the GENERAL question and there is a certain word order in it: auxiliary verb + subject + main verb + object. 'Would' is the auxiliary verb, 'you' - the subject, 'like' – the main verb, 'some coffee' - the object. Therefore, we choose ANSWER 4. |
