Answer | b |
Remark | We use the past tense to talk about something that happened once in the past - a completed action ina time before now. Duration is not important: Sally watched TV last night.; Did you play tennis at weekends?. It can also be used for actions taking place one after another or in the middle of another action:She entered a cafe, took off her coat, sat down and took the menu.; Roby fell off the tree and her friends took her to a doctor. For regular verbs, we add -ed to the base form of the verb (work – worked) or -d if the verb already ends in e (move – moved). In the test sentence ‘I woke up at 7 a.m., ironed my clothes and _________ (to go) out.’. we need to form the past form of the irregular verb ‘go’. Many verbs are irregular and we have to learn them: arise –arose – arisen; bet – bet – bet; bleed – bled – bled; come – came – come; freeze – froze – frozen; send –sent – sent, etc. The past form of the irregular verb ‘go’ is ‘went’, therefore, we are to choose ANSWER2 (went). |
