| Front | The other expression is “to be a fish out of water”. And to be a fish out of water means that you just are not quite up to a particular situation, you don’t really fit into the situation, you’re a little overwhelmed. Mostly that you just don’t fit in. So let’s imagine for an example that there is a nun. A nun who lives in the convent, and she lives a very quiet existence, she prays several hours a day, she goes to mass regularly, she lives an ascetic lifestyle and is very accustomed to a very tranquil, peaceful lifestyle. But for some reason or other, she has to go hang out at the local bar, and she walks into the bar and the music is blaring and the people are dancing and it’s really noisy and people are talking to each other, and they’re in each other faces. That nun may really feel like a fish out of water. She’s in an environment completely foreign to her, completely uncomfortable for her. So those are a couple of examples of how we would use those two expressions. |

Ser um peixe fora d´água significa que você simplesmente não está a par de uma situação em particular, você realmente não se encaixa na situação.
