Episode Title | Inconsiderate Subway/Train Passengers |
Phrase | to hog |
Text | The verb "to hog," in this podcast, means to use all of something and not let others have it, especially to use more than one should: "Bryan complained that he couldn't do his homework because his sister was hogging the computer." The phrase "to go hog wild" means to do something in an uncontrollable, very enthusiastic way: "All the kids went hog wild at the birthday party." The phrase "to go the whole hog" means to do something fully and to an extreme, much more than one normally would: "The event planners decided to go the whole hog and rent the most expensive restaurant in town." Finally, calling someone a "hog" is a rude way to say that he or she is selfish, greedy, and/or eats too much: "Camilo ate the entire pizza in one sitting. What a hog!" |
