Dialysis Concentration Water Urea Work Person Connected Machine

Front How does dialysis work?
Back The person is connected to a dialysis machine, and their blood passes over a semi-permeable mebrane. On the other side of this membrane is a dialysis fluid, which contains the normal concentration of water and ions, but no urea. This causes all of the urea, and only some of the water and ions to diffuse to the dialysis fluid. The dialysis fluid is constantly refreshed, so that there is always a large concentration gradient for urea.
