Test Tube Benedict's Prepare Sample Water Bath Solution

To perform Benedict's test, prepare a food sample, add 5 cm³ to a test tube, add Benedict's solution, heat in a water bath at 75°C for 5 minutes. The color will change from blue to green, yellow, or brick-red if sugars are present.

  1. Prepare a food sample and transfer 5cm3 to a test tube.
  2. Prepare a water bath to 75 degrees.
  3. Add some Benedict's solution to the test tube using a pipette.
  4. Place the test tube in the water bath for 5 minutes.
  5. If the sample contains sugar, the solution in the tube will change from blue to green, yellow or brick-red.
