GCSE Biology Paper 1 (9-1 Exams)
Water Transpiration Roots Plant Leaf Drawn Describe Process
Front |
Describe the process of the transpiration stream. OR Explain how water is transported from the roots of a plant to its leaves. |
Back |
- Water from inside a leaf evaporates and diffuses out of the leaf, mainly through the stomata
- This creates a shortage of water in the leaf, so more water is drawn up from the rest of the plant through xylem vessels to replace it.
- This in turn means more water is drawn up from the roots and so there is a constant transpiration stream of water through the plant.
