Costodiaphragmatic Lung Recess Structure Part Pleural Sac Diaphragm

Front Costodiaphragmatic recess
Back Structure: part of the pleural sac where the diaphragm is so close to the chest wall that that the lung is excluded, extends between inferior tip of lung and costodiaphragmatic reflection (8th-10th rib).

Function: potential space normally filled with a film of serous fluid.
a) diminishes during inspiration as lungs expand down
b) can fill with fluid during injury or disease state, which can be removed via thorocentesis
