Structure: the area on the lung's medial surface through which structures enter the organ
- Primary bronchus
- Pulmonary artery
- 2 pulmonary veins
- Lymphatic vessels and bronchopulmonary lymph nodes
- Bronchial arteries
- Continuation of cardiopulmonary plexus of nerves

Function: provides a path for blood vessels, nerves, airways, and lymph ducts to enter and exit the lung
