Posterior Aorta Descends Arteries Descending Thoracic Structure Part

Front Descending aorta
Back (Thoracic aorta)

Structure: the part of the aorta that descends through the thorax in the posterior mediastinum (below level of sternal angle). Descends on the vertebral bodies to the left of the midline and pierces the diaphragm at T12 level.

Gives rise to:
a) the posterior intercostal arteries
b) the bronchial arteries

Function: brings blood to the lower body, as well as the lungs and the posterior body wall
