Spinal Roots Cord Vertebral Exit Intervertebral Cauda Equina

Front Cauda equina
Back Structure: collection of dorsal and ventral roots that extends below the end of the spinal cord (L1-2 vertebral level) within the vertebral column. Roots exit at different intervertebral foramen to become spinal nerves.

Function: allow each spinal nerve to exit at a unique intervertebral foramen, despite the spinal cord being shorter than the spine.
