Cell Surface Protein Protects Host Cells Complement Damage Blocking

A cell-surface protein that shields host cells from complement damage by preventing C9 from binding to the C5b678 complex, thereby inhibiting Membrane Attack Complex (MAC) formation. It is known as CD59 or protectin.
