An enzyme complex that splits C3 into C3b and C3a on a pathogen's surface. It is formed differently in the classical/lectin pathways (C4b and C2a) compared to the alternative pathway (C3b and Bb).
Enzyme complex that cleaves C3 into C3b and C3a on pathogen surfaces. Its composition varies between the classical/lectin pathways (C4b + C2a) and the alternative pathway (C3b + Bb).
Front | Enzyme complex that cleaves C3 to C3b and C3a on the surface of a pathogen. In the classical and lectin pathways this enzyme complex is formed from membrane-bound C4b complexed with the protease C2a. In the alternative pathway this complex is formed from membrane-bound C3b complexed with the protease Bb |
