Back | Yi (also known as Nuosu) 彝族 (Yí Zú) 0.6538% 8,714,393 They live in China, Vietnam, and Thailand. They live primarily in rural areas of Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi, usually in mountainous regions. Some scholars believe that the Yi are descended from the ancient Qiang people of today's western China, who are also said to be the ancestors of the Tibetan, Naxi and Qiang peoples. The Chinese government recognizes six mutually unintelligible Yi languages. |
